Goodbye Old Friend

We need to put our old dog down. We would prefer to do it at home in her
bed, but don't know how to do it painlessly. We called our Vet and she says
there is nothing she can give us that we can administer orally. She also
said she doesn't know of anything that will make the dog sleepy enough to
fall asleep in her bed and we can bring her to the Vet (at 100 lbs not an
easy proposition in any case). The vet said she would come here, but the dog
is very protective of the house and it would only upset her more. Does
anyone have any ideas of how we can make this as comfortable as possible for
her?

Thanks,

Get the vet to give you enough Ace to get her into a very sleepy stage. The
real name is something like acepromozide or something close to that. It's
basically doggie valium. We have to give it to our little one on the 4th of
July. I used to give it to my Great Pyrenees before a bath. It's just a
really good tranquilizer. Then I'd take her to the vet or better yet, let
the vet come to the house. The ace will keep her from being protective of
the house. I'm so sorry it's time for her to cross the bridge. My prayers
will be with you during this sad time.

Love and hugs,
Toni

Thanks, Toni. I'll ask our Vet about it and let you know. The big day is in
less than 2 weeks and we're already falling apart.

Sorry, haven't checked this group in quite a while. Thanks for asking. The
pills pretty much knocked her out so I had to carry all 100 lbs of her into
the vet. We brought her bed along, and put her on that on the floor. I
stayed by her head and the vet worked on her rear leg. Just as the vet gave
the shot she lifted her head and licked my chin (like she always does when
she feels lovie), then she put her head down and left us.
